All schools in Sierra Leone are public, private, or religious; there is no in between. The average years of schooling is 2 years for women and 4 years for men. People that are educated in Sierra Leone are held in high regard. Though they do not have as much schooling as some countries, they greatly value education.
Students are usually taught in English unless they are in a rural area. If they are in a rural area, then they are taught in their local language. Students in Sierra Leone study English, Math, Sciences, their local languages, and History.
Few students go on to high education. If they do decide to go to University, they must pass the West African Senior School Certificate Exam.
The current literacy rate of Sierra Leone is 31.4%
