Problems in Sierra Leone

Sierra Leone has the seventh lowest life expectancy in the world and one of the highest infant mortality rates. The life expectancy is 56 years. 70% of Sierra Leone's population is below the poverty line. As you can see in the picture below, chemicals from agriculture is polluting surface waters, making it harder for Sierra Leone's people to get clean water. Infections and parasites are found in contaminated water, especially in Sierra Leone. This also led to the largest cause of death. Contamination leaves a high risk for the people of Sierra Leone to get hepatitis A and Typhoid fever. During Sierra Leone's wet season, floods carry waste into wells, spreading the polluted waters. Deforestation by mining is also depleting water sources and mining is causing land degradation.
